Ludlow Races

As one of the least populated counties in England, Shropshire is home to a great many natural attractions, among them the Shropshire Hills and large parts of the River Severn. The scene is set then for a charming local racecourse dubbed the friendliest in the country.

Ludlow Races, inside rail Ludlow races are held near the Shropshire town of the same name, close to the border with Wales. The town has many historic and cultural attractions besides the racing but in Ludlow Racecourse there is a definite local pride and a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere for anyone who comes to join in.

Although occupying a rural location, Ludlow is well connected with the main transport network and easily accessed by road, from Hereford and Shrewsbury, and by train on the main Manchester to Cardiff route. Ludlow races are held from October to May and comprise 15 National Hunt fixtures, offering plenty of chances for jump racing fans to attend and for groups and families to enjoy a good day out with all the excitement of live racing to add to the attractions of Ludlow.

Ludlow races are held on two tracks at the course, the steeplechase track and a longer hurdles track. In either case riders and horses are faced with significant challenges on a surface which tends to run fast and with tight turns and rapid-fire fences.

A public road crosses the track at three places and the temporary mat covering over the road provides a further obstacle to overcome. Many riders have become unseated at the first jump and although it has been lowered its fearsome reputation remains. Unsurprisingly, given the intricacies of the course, those with previous experience tend to do better at Ludlow. The form book tends to go out the window too and surprise winners are common.

Members Enclosure badges cost £20 and admit holders to all public areas in addition to the Members Enclosure which offers the best race views and access to the Premier Enclosure dining, drinks and betting facilities. Reductions are available for group admission, booked in advance and children under the age of 16 are admitted free when with a paying adult.

Hospitality options at Ludlow races provide further race day opportunities and are ideal for private parties, group and family celebrations and corporate entertaining. There are 6 private boxes available for this purpose with a capacity for either 12 or 20 guests within an exclusive and classic race day environment.

Ludlow Races, photo finish Hospitality packages for the private boxes start from £71 per head and comprise access to the private facility as well as to the Members Enclosure, a private bar facility, choice of dining package, and tea coffee served throughout the day.

A restaurant package is the best option for smaller groups and for £55 per person, a table may be booked within the Jubilee Stand Restaurant. Full waitress service and three course meal are provided and the table is booked for the entire day. Tables by the window for the best race views cost £5 extra per person. Another restaurant within the Members Enclosure is the Clive Pavilion Carvery and there are additional drinks and snack options in the other enclosures.
